Accessible Course Design Specialist
Responsibilities:

- Successful teaching and learning entail active exchange between teachers and learners.
- Office of Teaching and Learning units support this idea by helping faculty and students learn how to identify, describe, and participate in communities of learners.
- Define and understand how and why knowledge is created within different contexts, whether academic courses, workplaces, or other sites beyond the university.
- Connect identities and commitments to academic study.
- Activate sources of motivation, especially when encountering and working on challenges.
- Use feedback, assessment, and evaluations to refine and improve teaching and learning.
- The Accessible Course Design Specialist leads campus efforts to promote accessible digital learning environments through training, consultation, and instructional design support.
- This role coordinates and delivers faculty and TA training on accessibility and Universal Design for Learning (UDL), develops and maintains instructional resources, and provides expert guidance on designing accessible courses in Canvas and related instructional tools.
- The position works closely with faculty, teaching assistants, and campus partners to remediate non-accessible course content, ensure accurate implementation of testing accommodations, and encourage the adoption of accessible teaching practices.
- Responsibilities include developing training materials and multimedia resources, maintaining documentation and toolkits, consulting on effective use of technology to enhance inclusive instruction, and supporting course review and remediation processes.
- The Specialist also gathers and analyzes data to monitor accessibility compliance, assess training effectiveness, and identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
- This position represents UCSB in UC-wide instructional design and accessibility groups, contributing to systemwide initiatives that advance accessibility, inclusivity, and innovation in teaching and learning.
Skills:
- Bachelor's Degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
- Familiarity with Universal Design for Learning
- Experience with ADA compliance
- Project management skills
- Experience consulting with faculty on a range of issues related to the intersection of educational technology and effective pedagogical practice (across disciplinary boundaries)
- Demonstrated success as a collaborative team member
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills in a variety of interactions (e.g. written, verbal, in person, media)
- Remote classroom tech support (Medium proficiency)
- Working knowledge of the technical tools and platforms required to achieve the delivery of engaging and media-rich online learning content, and of trends in the use and effectiveness of educational technology and learning
- Working knowledge of online training platforms, technology and best practices
- Thorough knowledge of instructional design principles and learning strategies, including needs analysis, backwards design, learning outcomes and assessment design, and instructional approaches including lecture, discussion, activities, projects, etc
- 1-3 years Demonstrated expertise in college and university pedagogy and knowledge of research-based teaching and learning principles based on listed prior experience or publications
Benefits:

- 💰 Pay Rate/Range: $71,600 - $97,224/year
- 💵 Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience; the budget for the position; and the application of fair, equitable, and consistent pay practices at the University
- 💰 The full salary range for this position is $77,600 to $127,400/year
